ATLANTA, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:

 

Board of Economic Development (Formerly, the Board of Industry, Trade, and Tourism)

Tom Griffith, 73, Watkinsville, GA, At Large Representative- Griffith is the founder and CEO of Golden Pantry Food Stores, Inc.  He has served the state and his community in a number of capacities.  Griffith served as Chairman of the Department of Natural Resources Board, Director of the Business Council of Georgia, and Board Member for the Georgia Development Authority.  He is the founder and past President of the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores.  Griffith served in the United States Navy and attended the University of Georgia.  He and his wife, Marion, have four children.

 

Board of Juvenile Justice

Judy Mecum, 64, Gainesville, GA, 10 th Congressional District Representative- Mecum is a former Captain with the Hall County Sheriff's Office.  As a Sergeant, she established the Youth and Juvenile Investigations Unit which investigates child abuse and child molestation cases.  Later, as a Lieutenant of Criminal Investigations, Mecum implemented the "Bear to Buckle-up" seat belt safety program.  She instructed Hall County students from kindergarten through the second grade about the importance of seat belt use.  The program was recognized by the Office of Highway Safety.  Mecum is a graduate of Brenau College, where she earned a degree in Criminal Justice.  She and her husband, Richard, have four children.

 

Civil War Commission

Jan Loftis, 57, Augusta, GA, At Large- Loftis is a member of the Civil War Round Table, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Civil War Preservation Trust.  Loftis served as a caseworker for the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services following her graduation from Agnes Scott College with a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science.  She served as a Program Coordinator for the Continuing Education Department of Augusta State University, a Vocational Counselor at the Georgia Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and as a Vocational Evaluator and Development Coordinator for the Easter Seal Society.  Loftis and her husband, Ed, have two children.

 

Georgia Golf Hall of Fame Board

W. Glenn Cornell, 63, Snellville , GA , At Large Representative- Cornell recently retired as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.  He has more than forty-one years of Georgia business and economic development experience.  He joined Norfolk Southern in 1962, working in the Sales and Industrial Development Departments.  He joined the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade, and Tourism, serving as a manager in the Research and Industry Divisions.  He later spent two years with a major Atlanta real estate developer.  Cornell joined Bank of America (then C&S National Bank) in 1976 to manage the economic development efforts in Georgia.  Cornell is past president of the Georgia Economic Developers Association, active in the Southern Industrial Development Council and the American Economic Development Council.  He is also past President of the Atlanta Athletic Club, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Communities in School of Georgia, President-Elect of the Georgia State Golf Association, member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland.  Cornell is a graduate of Berry College, the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma, and the Emory University Advanced Management Program.

 

Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST)

Tom McMichael, 68, Warner Robins, GA, County Commissioner Representative- McMichael is a member of the Board of Commissioners of Houston County.  For forty years, he made a career in the banking industry.  McMichael serves as Chairman of the Warner Robins Air Force Base Museum Foundation, President of the Development Corporation of Middle Georgia, Director of Middle Georgia Regional Development Corporation, and Director of New Southern Bank.  He is also the Treasurer for both Health Care of Central Georgia and the Carl Vinson Memorial Chapter Air Force Association.  McMichael is on the Military Affairs Committee for Robins Air Force Base and is an active member of Christ United Methodist Church.  He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, the Louisiana State University School of Banking, and has attended banking courses at the University of Virginia.  McMichael served in the United States Army for six years.  He and his wife, Dianne, have two children and two grandchildren.

 

Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Authority

Dee Matthews, 68, Albany, GA, At Large Representative (Reappointment)- Matthews is currently the Vice Chairman of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.  She is also the Director of the Albany Sports Hall of Fame and a member of the Albany-Dougherty County Chamber of Commerce.  Matthews serves on the Jekyll Island Foundation Advisory Board and Leadership Albany.  She volunteers her time with the Executive Board of the Boys and Girls Club, the Junior League, and the Charity League.  Matthews attended the University of Georgia and served as Director of the UGA Alumni Association.  She and her husband, Jimmy, have two children.

 

Georgia Technology Authority

Alfred G. Hansen, 71, Marietta, GA, At Large Representative- Hansen is the President and CEO of EMS Technologies.  Prior to joining EMS, he established his own aerospace and manufacturing consulting agency.  Hansen was the Corporate Vice President of Lockheed Martin and Executive Vice President of Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems.  He retired from the United States Air Force as a four-star General after thirty-seven years of service.  Hansen received the Secretary of the Air Force Eugene Zuckert Award for exceptional management in his organization, and the Presidential Quality Award.  He is a member of the Gwinnett Technical College Foundation, National Board of American Electronics Association, Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, Warner Robins Museum of Aviation Board, the Junior Achievement Board, Chairman of the Arnold Air Society for the USAF Reserve Office Training Corp. program, and is a member of the Falcon Foundation of the United States Air Force Academy Board.  Hansen is a graduate of Troy State University and completed graduate programs at the Air Command & Staff and Air War College.  He and his wife, Donna, have four children.

 

Georgia Commission on Women

Lynn Murphey, 36, Macon, GA, At Large Representative- Murphey is the Director of Community and Government Relations for Cox Communications, Middle Georgia.  She was selected in 2003 by Major General Donald Wetekam to serve as one of four community liaisons acting as ambassadors for Robins Air Force Base.  Murphey serves on the Macon Rotary Club Board, is a member of the Junior League of Macon, the State & Local Government Committee of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, the Children's Hospital Board of Directors, and the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee.  She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, Women in Cable and Telecommunications, and the Cable Television Public Affairs Association.  Murphey is a graduate of Mercer University and is pursuing further certification courses at Boston College.  She and her husband, Clay, have two children.

 

Georgia State Board of Architects and Interior Designers

Ivenue Love-Stanley, 52, Atlanta, GA, Architect Representative- Love-Stanley has been the Managing Principal of Stanley, Love-Stanley since 1983.  Prior to this, she worked on architectural designs for several MARTA rail stations, private buildings, and St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gainesville.  Love-Stanley was profiled in African American Architects in Current Practice , and featured in numerous magazines and newspapers.  She is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects and the National Organization of Minority Architects.  Love-Stanley offered her services to both the Commission of the Preservation of the State Capitol and the City of Atlanta Urban Design Commission.  She serves on the Ebenezer Charitable Foundation Board, the Midtown Community Improvement District, and the Robert Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech.  Love-Stanley earned a degree in mathematics from Millsaps College and a Bachelor of Architecture from Georgia Tech.  She and her husband, William, are also business partners.

 

State Construction Industry Licensing Board, Division of Conditioned Air Contractors

Sally Stanfield Allen, 42, Athens, GA, Conditioned Air Contractor Representative- Stanfield Allen is the President of Stanfield Air Systems.  She is a member of Business Network International, the Conditioned Air Association of Georgia, and serves on the Air Conditioning Technology Advisory Committee at Athens Technical College.  Stanfield Allen volunteers her time at Gordons Chapel United Methodist Church.  She is a graduate of Georgia College.  She and her husband, Mitchell, reside in Athens.

 

Georgia Board of Real Estate Appraisers

Bill Coleman, Jr., 66, Martinez, GA, Consumer Representative- Coleman is an attorney, representing commercial and residential developers in Georgia and South Carolina.  He previously served as Special Assistant Attorney General for the Law Department of the State of Georgia.  Coleman was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army, serving as a Platoon Leader and Battalion Adjutant in Korea.  He obtained the rank of Captain prior to discharge.  Coleman is a member of the Augusta, Georgia, and American Bar Associations.  He coached youth basketball and youth soccer, and is a leader of an Explorer Scout post.  Coleman is on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, and was President of the Davidson High School Parent-Teacher Association.  He is the Chairman of the Columbia County Development Authority and a Trustee and President of the Augusta Museum of History.  Coleman obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Georgia.  He and his wife, Jerri, have five children.
