Governor Perdue Announces Appointments to State Boards and Commissions

ATLANTA, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following appointments to State Boards and Commissions:

 

Board of Natural Resources

Glenn Taylor, 81, Cartersville, GA, At Large (Reappointment)- Taylor is the Chairman of the Board of the Bankhead Corporations, an expansion of Bankhead Welding Service, the company he founded.  He is Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Highway Contractors Association, Vice Chairman of the Georgia Freight Bureau, Inc., and serves on the Board of Directors for Georgia Baptist Health Care System.  Taylor is a member of the Atlanta Rotary Club and the Shriner Club, and serves as a Deacon at Wieuca Baptist Church.  He founded the Taylor Foundation which offers scholarships to Georgians with agricultural, horticultural, or home-making goals to continue their education.

Jenny Lynn Bradley, 61, Savannah, GA, Coastal Seat- Bradley currently serves on the Bethesda Endowment Board and is the Vice President of The Garden Club of America. She is a former President of the Board of Governors for the Bethesda Home for Boys.  Bradley is former Chairman of the Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church Board of Trustees and has served on the Board of the Historic Savannah Foundation.  Bradley graduated from the University of Georgia.  She and her husband Waldo have three children.

 

Southern Regional Board of Education

Sandra Neal, 54, Musella , GA , At Large- Neal currently serves as a Leadership Consultant to the Middle Georgia RESA.  She is also a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators and the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders.  Neal is a former superintendent of the Crawford County Schools, former principal of Houston County High School, and was an educator in the Houston County School System for 25 years.  She is active in the Roberta-Crawford County Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club, the Robert Searcy Safe House for Women, and the Zenith Road Baptist Church.  Neal holds an undergraduate degree and a master's in education from Georgia College and an Education Administration degree from the University of Georgia.  She and her husband, Aaron, have four children.

 

Georgia Auctioneers Commission

Mark Manley, 39, Pavo, GA, Auctioneer Representative- Manley is currently an Auction Coordinator and Property Appraiser for Rowell Auctions, Inc.  He holds real estate licenses in five states and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Auctioneers Association Education Institute.  Manley is the Secretary and Treasurer of the Georgia Auctioneers Association.  He serves on the Thomas County Planning and Land Use Commission and is a member of the Thomasville United Methodist Church.  Manley holds a degree from Thomas University and is a graduate of the Auction Marketing Institute and the Missouri Auction School.  He and his wife, Sheri, have two children.

 

State Construction Industry Licensing Board, Division of Conditioned Air Contractors

Darbie Dowling Granberry, 31, Tifton, GA, Conditioned Air Contractor Representative- Granberry is President of Crownover Refrigeration, Inc, and is in charge of daily business operations. He is a member of the Conditioned Air Association of Georgia. Granberry attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and holds an Air Condition Technology degree from East Central Tech.  He and his wife, Jenny, reside in Tifton.

 

State Construction Industry Licensing Board, Division of Plumbers

Paul "Tommy" Addis, Jr., 67, Fayetteville, GA, Plumber Representative (Reappointment)- Addis is the President and owner of Quality Plumbing Enterprises, Inc.  He is former President of both the Atlanta Metro and Georgia State Plumbing Associations.  Addis is a licensed master plumber in seven states and is a member of the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce.  He and his wife, Joyce, have three children.

Don Swords, Jr., 51, Snellville, GA, Journeyman Plumber Representative (Reappointment)- Swords has served on the State Licensing Board since 1998.  He is currently a member of the Plumber and Pipefitters Union and serves as a Trustee of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Georgia.  Swords volunteers his time and skills to the Shepherd Spinal Center in Atlanta.  He and his wife, Darlene, have two children.

 

State Board of Funeral Service

Thelon Hamby, III, 47, LaGrange, GA, Funeral Director Representative- Hamby is the Vice President of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, where he has worked since 1979.  He was appointed to the State Board of Funeral Service from 1993-2001, serving as President, Vice President, and Cognizant Board Member.  Hamby is on the Board of Directors for the LaGrange Rotary Club and is a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange.  Hamby earned a Business Administration degree from Presbyterian College and a Mortuary Science degree from the University of Minnesota.  He and his wife, Pat, have two children.

 

Georgia Board of Nursing

Toni Barnett, Ph.D., 58, Ellijay, GA, Nursing Educator Representative- Barnett is a professor at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega.  She is also involved in Georgia Mountain Health, a faculty practice.  For the past 24 years, Barnett has served the medical field as nurse, consultant, and instructor.  She is a member of over a dozen professional nursing organizations, volunteers her time as a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association, and is an American Red Cross Disaster Team Nurse.  Barnett earned her Ph.D. from Georgia State University.  She and her husband, George, have two children.

Linda Easterly, 46, Kathleen, GA, Nursing Administrator Representative- Easterly is the Director of the Occupational Health and Wellness program at the Houston Healthcare Complex in Warner Robins.  She served as the Director of Nursing Services at Perry Hospital and Director of Obstetrics at East Montgomery Medical Center in Alabama.  Easterly volunteers her time to the American Heart Association and the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce.  She is on the Houston County Department of Family and Children Services Board.  Easterly earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Wright State University, a Masters in management from Georgia College, and a master's in Healthcare Policy and Administration from Mercer University.  She and her husband, Glenn, have one child.
