Governor Perdue Hosts Reception for G8 Host Committee

ST. SIMONS ISLAND , GA - Governor Sonny Perdue tonight hosted a reception for members of the G8 Host Committee at The Lodge on St. Simons Island .
Governor Perdue thanked the G8 Host Committee for their role in welcoming the G8 Summit leaders and their efforts to ensure a relaxed and productive working environment during their visit. Governor Perdue recognized Fred Cooper, Chair of the Host Committee, and Bill Jones III, Chairman and CEO of the Sea Island Company, for their leadership.
The G8 Host Committee helped make possible the G8 Education Project, the G8 Legacy Project, and the Georgia Media Resource Center at the International Media Center . The Education Project provided curriculum to teach students about the Summit , the G8 member countries, and the relevance of these international partnerships to their lives. The Legacy Project will draw global visitors and students interested in learning about the Summit , the role Georgians played, and the lasting impact on the community. The Legacy Project will be supported by the Coastal Georgia Historical Society at the St. Simons Island Lighthouse. The Georgia Media Resource Center showcases Georgia 's attractive business climate and the state's tourism and environmental assets.
In attendance were Senator Saxby Chambliss, Congressman Jack Kingston, Congressman Max Burns, Ambassador Andrew Young, state and local elected officials, and business leaders.
