Statement of Governor Perdue Regarding the Passing of Dr. Henry Thomassen

ATLANTA, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the passing of Dr. Henry Thomassen, Economic Advisor to the Governor:

"Mary and I are deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Dr. Thomassen. Georgia has lost a dedicated public servant with a strong passion for this state. Dr. Thomassen served the people of Georgia for more than 40 years and provided economic counsel to eight Governors.

"He had the ability to convey economic news in a pleasant, witty, and wry manner that was unique for his profession. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Helen, his five children, family, and friends."

Thomassen, 75, served as the Economic Advisor to Governor Perdue and seven previous Governors dating back to 1963 and Sanders Administration. Previously, he was a professor of economics at the University of Nebraska, the University of British Columbia, Emory University, Georgia State University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Columbia University and Upsalla College. Thomassen was the author of two books and several professional articles. He earned a Ph.D in economics with undergraduate and graduate study in economics, mathematics, and statistics at the University of Alberta, Boston University, and the University of Nebraska. Thomassen was born in Calgary, Alberta Canada.
