Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding bipartisan House passage of his School Discipline legislation:

"Our teachers are a valuable resource, deserving of the utmost respect.  With overwhelming passage of my Student Discipline legislation, we are empowering teachers with the tools necessary to maintain order in their classrooms and foster a positive learning environment.  It's my hope that the conference committee will quickly resolve differences between the House and Senate versions and send the bill to my desk."

Passage of School Discipline represents the sixth initiative of the Governor's legislative agenda passed by both chambers of the General Assembly (Child Protection, Flexibility and Accountability in Education, Bright from the Start, Seed-Capital Fund, Levi's Call, and School Discipline).  Two bills, passed by the Senate, remain in the House, the Faith and Family Services Amendment and Ethics Reform.
