Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement regarding the legislative district maps released today by the court:

"Today, the people of Georgia won a great victory. It is unfortunate that we could not win it together, but required the help of the courts. The partisan politics that led to the current unconstitutional district maps will not be a factor in this November's elections.

"Since I took office, I have urged the General Assembly to create maps that are compact, keep communities of interest together, and ensure all of our citizens' equal voting power. I want legislative districts to be fair and square. These maps appear to have achieved that goal and, as a result, the people of Georgia will all be equal at the ballot box in November."
