Governor Perdue Announces Appointment to Board of Pardons and Paroles

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the appointment of Garland Hunt to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles.
"Garland Hunt is a great addition to the Board of Pardons and Paroles," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "His legal and community experience will benefit the board's administration of fair and impartial justice."
The Board of Pardons and Paroles consists of five at-large members, who each serve a seven year term. Hunt is replacing Dr. Betty Ann Cook, whose term expired on December 31, 2003 .
The mission of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles is to (1) protect the public by thoroughly investigating and processing inmate cases and making responsible, just, and equitable parole decisions while balancing punishment and rehabilitation, (2) respond to the needs and concerns of crime victims and their families, (3) use agency and community resources as a bridge to help parolees reach self-sufficiency and stable citizenship, and (4) supervise parolees skillfully and return to prison those who demonstrate they will not by choice abide by their release conditions.

Garland R. Hunt, 45, Alpharetta , GA - Hunt is currently principal at Hunt Consulting. He previously served as a Staff Attorney for the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit. He is a member of the Georgia Bar Association, the Bar of Court Appeals of Georgia , and the Bar of Supreme Court of Georgia. Hunt is serving as President for the Network of Politically Active Christians and Chairman for the African-American Task Force within the Georgia Republican Party. He received his undergraduate degree from Howard University and a Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law. Hunt and his wife, Eileen, have three children.
