Governor Perdue Announces Appointments to Georgia Council for the Arts and Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue today announced Susan Weiner as Executive Director of the Georgia Council for the Arts and Joseph Doyle as Director of the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs. 

The Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs position was previously vacant.  Ann Treadwell was serving as Interim Director of the Georgia Council for the Arts.

The Office of Consumer Affairs protects consumers and legitimate business enterprises from unfair and deceptive activities through the enforcement of the Fair Business Practices Act and other related consumer protection statutes.

The mission of the Georgia Council for the Arts is to encourage excellence in the arts, support the arts many forms of expression, and make the arts available to all Georgians by providing funding, leadership, programming, and other services.

Brief biographies are provided below:

Joseph B. Doyle, 56, Atlanta, GA - Doyle recently sold his retail chain, After Hours Formal Wear.  His experience prior to becoming a business owner includes positions with Arthur Andersen & Co. and Augusta National Golf Club.  Doyle is an active member of the community, including involvement in the Boxwood Society of America, the Atlanta Historical Society, and Turnaround Management Association. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame.  He and his wife, Carol, have three children.

Susan S. Weiner, 56, Rabun Gap, GA - Weiner currently completes corporate training, research, and proposal/grant writing for Weiner Associates.  She also designed and teaches a program at the Coverdell Leadership Institute.  Her career also includes serving as Vice President of Duffey Communications, Counselor for the Small Business Development Center at the University of Georgia, and City of Savannah Mayor (1992-1995).  Weiner was awarded the President's Life Award from the Business and Professional Women of Georgia and was named as one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine.  She received her undergraduate degree from State University of New York at New Paltz.  Weiner has three grown children.
