Governor Perdue Appoints New SRTA Executive Director and DMVS Commissioner

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue today announced the appointment of Douglas R. Hooker as the new State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) Executive Director and James R. Davis as the new Department of Motor Vehicle Safety (DMVS) Commissioner.

"I am pleased to welcome these individuals to lead two important transportation agencies," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "They each bring a wide variety of experience that I know will greatly benefit SRTA and DMVS."

Governor Perdue also thanked Marty Horne, who served as Interim DMVS Commissioner, and John Leonard, who served as SRTA's Acting Executive Director. "Marty and John's service to these organizations and the state is greatly appreciated. I look forward to continuing to work with them."

The State Road and Tollway Authority is the transportation infrastructure financing arm for the State of Georgia. The State Road and Tollway Authority is committed to efficiently financing, managing, and delivering land transportation choices for the State of Georgia.

The Department of Motor Vehicle Safety strives to develop policies and procedures that produce increased efficiency in the process of renewing drivers' licenses, getting a vehicle registration, and traveling Georgia's roadways.

Brief biographies of James Davis and Douglas Hooker are provided below:

James R. Davis, Macon, GA - Since August 2000, Davis has served as the Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner, where he was an agent of the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety for issuing motor vehicle tags, registration, and titles. Prior to that position, he served as Chairman of the Macon-Bibb County Board of Tax Assessors and Director of Financial Affairs for Mercer University. Davis earned an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Georgia Southern College and a graduate degree from the University of Georgia Management Development Program. He has served as President of the Georgia Association of Assessing Officials and an instructor for the Georgia Assessor Certification Program and the University of Georgia County Commissioner Training Program. Davis is married and has four children.

Douglas R. Hooker, P.E., Atlanta, GA - Hooker has served as the Vice President and Department Manager for HDR Engineering, Inc. since 2001. Prior to that position, he served as the Vice President of Operations for S.L. King & Associates, President of the Randolph Group, and Commissioner for the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works. Hooker is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies, American Public Transportation Association, American Public Works Association, and the National Society of Black Engineers. He received his undergraduate degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a Masters of Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters of Business Administration from Emory University. Hooker and his wife have two children and one grandchild.
