Governor Perdue Announces Appointments to State Boards and Commissions

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following appointments to State Boards and Commissions:

Board of Commissioners of the Georgia Student Finance Commission

Thomas Eugene Bowen, 34, Stone Mountain, GA (4th Congressional District) - Bowen is President and founder of TaxTrust Group LLC, a consulting firm. Prior to this, Bowen served PriceWaterhouseCoopers in various senior capacities and the State of Florida as an auditor. Bowen, a certified public accountant, received undergraduate degrees from the University of South Florida and St. Leo College in Tampa, Florida and his J.D. from Georgia State University.

State Children's Trust Fund Commission

Michele H. Smith, 54, Pine Mountain, GA (8th Congressional District) - Smith is a teacher and parental involvement coordinator at Park Elementary School in Hamilton, Georgia. She has served her field in a number of different capacities over her 20-year career in addition to serving her community, most recently as a member of the Board of Governors for the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum. Smith has also been involved with the Chamber of Commerce and Child Abuse Council in Harris County. Smith and her husband, Vance, have three children.

Anita P. Middleton, 64, Dahlonega, GA (9th Congressional District) - Middleton serves as Family Connection Coordinator for Lumpkin County and has previously served as project director for the Enotah Youth Project and on the Lumpkin County Board of Education. Middleton has a Masters degree from North Georgia College and State University. Her and her husband, Guy, have three children.

State Board of Technical and Adult Education

Sandra B. Reed, 43, Thomasville, GA (2nd Congressional District) - Reed, a certified member of the American Board of OB/Gyn, currently serves at the Shaw Center for Women's Health and is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Southwest Georgia Technical College. She has previously served as director-at-large for the Georgia OB/Gyn Society and as Alternate Director for the Medical Association of Georgia. She holds an undergraduate degree from Valdosta State College and received her Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia. Reed has three children.

Harold R. Reynolds, 47, Greensboro, GA (9th Congressional District, Reappointment) - Reynolds currently serves as Chairman and CEO for Citizens Union Bank; President of Reynolds Development; President of Reynolds Properties; and Director of Specialty Surgery Centers in Roswell, GA. He currently serves as Director and Vice Chairman of the State Board of Technical and Adult Education. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Reynolds and his wife, Lesley, have two children.

Mary Paige Flanders, 59, Savannah, GA (At-Large) - Flanders is a career teacher who has served in schools in west Georgia as well as South Carolina. She also worked in the home building industry for ten years. Flanders has served on the boards of various clubs and societies. She holds an undergraduate degree in home economics education. She and her husband, Dorsey, have two children.

World Congress Center Authority

David B. Allman, 49, Atlanta, GA - Allman is President and owner of Regent Partners, a real estate firm. Previously, he worked with the U.S. Army and the city of Kansas as developer and master developer. Allman is also involved with the Buckhead Community Improvement District, serving as its chairman. Allman holds an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College. He and his wife, Donna, have four children.

Anne Griffith Hennessy, 41, Atlanta, GA - Hennessy is founder of Hennessy Investments. Previously, she served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for New Intellivoice. Hennessy holds an undergraduate degree from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and an MBA from the Darden School, University of Virginia. She and her husband, Peter, have three children.

Martin Neil Kogon, 63, Atlanta, GA - Kogon is currently manager of Pull-a-Part, an auto parts retailer in Atlanta, Georgia. Formerly, Kogon served as regional manager and manager of Recycling Industries and Central Metals respectively. Kogon is an officer and board member of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and past president and board member of the Epstein School. Kogon received his bachelors in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Kogan and his wife, Judy, have two grown children, Michael and Ross.

James C. Edenfield, 69, Atlanta, GA - Edenfield currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of American Software, a company he co-founded. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Buckhead Coalition, where he formerly served as chairman. Edenfield is an inductee into the Georgia Technology Hall of Fame. He holds an undergraduate degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Norma, have three children.

Stone Mountain Memorial Association

Michael Clay Pentecost, 44, Winder, GA (At-Large) - Pentecost owns and operates Preferred Technical Service, an office machines sales and service company. Pentecost also owns Pentecost Construction, specializing in residential building. Pentecost also serves on the Board of Directors for the Barrow County Cattlemens Association. Pentecost studied Marketing at Georgia State University and Business Administration at DeKalb College. Pentecost has one son, Brandon.

Ray Stallings Smith, III, 42, Atlanta, GA (Metro Resident) - Smith is an attorney with McManus & Smith, LLP and serves on the Fulton County Board of Elections and Registration. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his J.D. from Mercer University. Smith and his wife, Lynn, have two children.

Lake Lanier Islands Authority

Hank Burnham, 36, Hull, GA (At-Large) - Burnham currently serves as Field Research Manager for Environmental Data Resources, Inc. He holds an undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University and is the author of several historical books.
