2nd phase of "Georgia Gets Going" package includes funding for bus and rail

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today details of the $100 million General Obligation (GO) bond package passed during the last legislative session. The package includes money for projects in four metro Community Improvement Districts, facilities to support the GRTA Express Bus service, and more funds for GRIP projects throughout the state.

"I am excited that this GO bond package is providing a quick infusion of funds to some truly innovative projects that will significantly increase mobility in the metro area," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "This is a very diverse group of projects that includes bus, rail, and road improvement solutions to a traffic problem that has become a quality of life issue for millions of Georgians."

The GO bond package is part of an overall "Georgia Gets Going" transportation bond package totaling $424 million. Last week, Governor Perdue announced the details of the $324 million Guaranteed Revenue bond package which includes money for arterial road improvement in Metro Atlanta and GRIP projects throughout the state.

There will be a total of $2.15 billion in transportation funds appropriated in FY04 including the "Georgia Gets Going" package. Approximately half of that total is spent in the Metro non-attainment counties, with about $900 million being spent specifically on congestion mitigation projects, and half is spent on projects throughout the rest of the state.

The following is a list of the specific projects.
