Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport and City of Atlanta Police Department Receive Reimbursement for Enhanced Security Measures

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport and the City of Atlanta Police Department will receive $345,977.59 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The funding was made available to help offset the costs associated with enhanced airport security measures deployed under two heightened threat periods during the conflict in Iraq and threats from anti-U.S. terrorist groups.

"Under the Code Orange threat level, critical infrastructure facilities, like Hartsfield, are required to implement increased security measures," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "We are grateful to President Bush and Secretary Ridge for helping fund the unexpected costs associated with heightened security measures and overtime."

Funding for Hartsfield and the City of Atlanta Police Department is part of a $5 million critical infrastructure protection grant made available to Georgia jurisdictions that incurred additional costs for operational security activities implemented under the Code Orange threat alerts designated March 17 - April 16 and May 20 - 30. The Atlanta Police Department will receive $146,467.01 for overtime reimbursement and Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport will receive $199,510.58 for security enhancements.
