Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue received the American Cancer Society's highest honor for legislative leadership today during the ACS Southeast Division's quarterly Corporate Leadership Council Meeting.

The "Capitol Dome Award" is a national recognition given to individuals "whose efforts demonstrate leadership on a legislative issue of high priority to the American Cancer Society." It is the American Cancer Society's most prestigious recognition for legislative leadership.

AGL Resources Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Paula Rosput hosted the luncheon at the new AGL Resources offices located at Ten Peachtree Place in Atlanta.

The Corporate Leadership Council consists of executives from Atlanta's top corporations who play key roles in promoting at least one priority activity for the American Cancer Society over the course of a year by engaging their corporations in the fight against cancer. Previous hosts have included Georgia Power and Delta Airlines.

"This distinguished honor for advocacy work reflects the commitment that Governor Perdue made in taking a stand against cancer in Georgia through House Bill 43," said Linda Edwards, Chief Mission Officer for the ACS Southeast Division. House Bill 43 raised tobacco taxes in Georgia for the first time in 32 years, but also provided tax relief in a number of other areas. "Few things are more central to our mission than reducing the single most preventable cause of cancer-tobacco use," Edwards said.
