Governor Perdue Orders Capitol Flag Lowered to Half Staff in Memory of Former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue signed an executive order today ordering that the flag atop the Capitol be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, June 28, 2003 to honor the memory of the Honorable Maynard Jackson. The text of the executive order is provided below.

CAPITOL FLAG LOWERED TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS: The Honorable Maynard Jackson served with distinction as Mayor of Atlanta, Georgia from 1974 to 1982 and 1990 to 1994; and

WHEREAS: Mayor Maynard Jackson led Georgia's capital city with a strong sense of community and vision by displaying commitment to public service, strong business acumen, and love of family.

NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF THE HONORABLE MAYNARD JACKSON AND HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED: That the flag on the State Capitol of Georgia shall be flown at half-staff on the 28th of June, 2003. On such day the flag shall be flown at half-staff until sunset.
