Atlanta - The following is a statement from Governor Sonny Perdue regarding the resignation of his Director of Communications, Erin O'Brien:

"It is with sadness that I accept the resignation of Erin O'Brien," said Perdue. "Erin has been a very important part of my team for the last six months. Her commitment to helping my administration get its start has been invaluable. Although her day-to-day presence will be greatly missed she will continue to provide me with her counsel going forward."

O'Brien said, "It is a bittersweet decision to leave the Governor's office at such a dynamic and exciting time in Georgia's history. However, it is time to return to the private sector where it is my intention to continue to be a part of Perdue's Team Georgia in true Jeffersonian fashion."

Perdue added, "The way she used to run up the stairs to my office on the second floor of the Capitol was an impressive display of athletic prowess. She could make those steps in ten seconds flat and still have breath to give me an earful about Dick Pettys or Jim Galloway. I think she actually has a future in sports."

O'Brien also has two book deals in the works. Possible titles include: Strategic Specialized Media Messaging: A Handbook for your State's First Republican Governor in 135 years and How to Plan a Wedding During the Longest, Most Rigorous Legislative Session Since the Birth of Representative Democracy.

Before joining Perdue's Transition Team, O'Brien was CEO of EOB Partners, Inc., a strategic communications and special events firm. O'Brien has done work for The White House, the Republican National Committee, WebMD, Inc., Earthlink and The Coca-Cola Company. She will be returning to her business.
