Total Aid To Georgia To Exceed $518 Million Over 2003-2004

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue today praised President George W. Bush and the Georgia Congressional Delegation for passing the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003.

“This tax relief will help spur Georgia’s economic growth and will help our state pull out of the worst fiscal crisis it has seen since the Great Depression. Individuals, families and businesses will all benefit from the tax relief passed by the Congress. I applaud our leaders for taking this action that will benefit all Georgians.”

In addition to this tax relief for Georgia’s families, the state will receive a Federal economic stimulus package of approximately $518,250,000. This money is allocated for essential state services and Medicaid funding. In the next two years, Georgia will receive $278 million in flexible grants for state services. Over the same time period, Georgia will also receive approximately $239 million for Medicaid. Nationwide, $20 billion will be distributed among states.

"I am appreciative that our President and Congress, particularly members of Georgia's delegation, continue to recognize the fiscal crisis our State, and nearly every state in the nation faces. The decision to include fiscal relief in this important economic growth package affirms their commitment to this nation’s prosperity," said Governor Sonny Perdue.
