Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement regarding student Reservists and National Guard Members called to active duty:

"President Bush has called upon our military forces to protect and defend America and our national security interests around the world. Reservists and National Guard members from Georgia are now on active duty in the Middle East. Many of these brave men and women are students in Georgia colleges and universities.

"Today, I am advising our college and university administrators to maintain the current standing of these students until their return from active duty. Reservists and National Guard Members should have the same standing as when they were called to service. Anything less will be unacceptable. I also encourage Georgia businesses to do the same with regards to their employees serving this nation.

"All Georgians who serve our country will be treated with the honor and respect they deserve. We will keep our commitment to those defending the freedoms we enjoy."
