Third Major Economic Development Announcement This Week

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue and Newell Rubbermaid officials today announced the relocation of the Fortune 500 company's consolidated headquarters and training center to Georgia. The company was previously based in Illinois.

"We are excited that a well-respected company like Newell Rubbermaid has chosen to call Georgia home," said Governor Perdue. "This announcement is further proof that our state has the knowledgeable, skilled workforce desired by major companies and the hospitable, cooperative working environment that allows them to flourish."

President and CEO Joe Galli, Jr. provided details on the relocation. The company's headquarters will be located at a site in north Fulton County. Newell Rubbermaid's relocation is also projected to bring a substantial number of "high-end" jobs to Georgia over the next five years.

Governor Perdue has been actively involved in the expansion talks, including a January meeting with Henlys officials, State Senator Ross Tolleson, and President and CEO of Blue Bird Corporation Richard Maddox.

"We believe this new facility will play an important role in preparing our executive team and future company leaders to drive our business to its fullest potential," said Galli.

Announcement signals third major economic development announcement this week
Governor Perdue has identified the state's economic development as a top priority. The Newell Rubbermaid announcement represents the third major economic development project announced this week.

On Monday, General Motors announced its plans for a $150 million capital investment initiative at its Doraville plant. Yesterday Fort Valley's Blue Bird manufacturing facility confirmed plans to make a substantial capital investment for site retooling and job retention.

Concluded Perdue: "These are challenging economic times for Georgia and we cannot be caught waiting for a recovery. My administration will continue to devote substantial resources to economic development -- growing Georgia-based operations and aggressively recruiting new operations to our state."
