Perdue Chooses Richardson as House Floor Leader

Atlanta - Governor-Elect Sonny Perdue today announced that Representative Glenn Richardson of Dallas will serve as one of his floor leaders in the upcoming legislative session.

"In just six short years, Glenn's honesty and principles have made him a true leader in the House of Representatives," said Perdue. "I have total confidence in his ability to help us lead the New Georgia, where principles come before politics."

Richardson will join Representative Larry O'Neal of Warner Robins in introducing all legislation brought forward by the Governor.


BIOGRAPHY OF REPRESENTATIVE GLENN RICHARDSON

Glenn Richardson grew up in Douglas County, Georgia where his parents owned a local country store. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1978. Glenn continued his employment at a local grocery store while attending college and law school at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1981, and graduated in the first class from the law school with a Juris Doctor Degree in December of 1984. Glenn passed the Georgia Bar Exam in 1984 while still in school.

In 1985, Glenn moved to Dallas, Georgia where he began working in the law firm of Vinson & Osborne. In 1987, he became a name partner at the law firm now known as Vinson, Talley, Richardson & Cable where he practices today. He was appointed County Attorney for Paulding County in 1989 and is now serving his thirteenth year in that position having obtained appointments by four separate county administrations.

Glenn and his wife Susan were married in 1990 and have three children. They are members of the First United Methodist Church in Dallas, Georgia where Glenn serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee. In addition to church activities, Glenn and his wife are active in the community as a former member of the Paulding County Rotary Club, a director of the New Hope Athletic Association Park and as a long time coach of youth in baseball and basketball.

Glenn is the first Republican elected from Paulding County to the Georgia House of Representatives since reconstruction. He was first elected in 1996, receiving 64% of the vote in a contested Primary and 68% in the contested General Election. He serves on the House Industry Committee, Judiciary Committee, and State Planning and Community Affairs Committee. He was reelected to his fourth term in 2002.
