Statement of Governor Sonny Perdue Regarding Final Passage of High Performance Principals
ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the final passage of legislation to recruit high performance principals to needs improvement middle and high schools (SB468):
“High performance principals are essential to improve our most challenged schools and will help raise Georgia 's high school graduation rates and overall educational success. This bill provides the necessary funding to attract principals with strong leadership qualities to these schools. I'd like to thank the General Assembly for passing this important piece of legislation, especially Senator Moody for sponsoring the bill and Representative Dickson for carrying it in the House.”
SB 486 provides for the establishment of a $3 million grant program to attract high performance principals to middle and high schools in need of improvement. The bill passed the House unanimously today 158-0. It passed the Senate with a 44-2 vote on February 8, 2006.
