Governor Perdue Orders Flags Lowered for General Robert L. Scott

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue today ordered flags on all state buildings and grounds be flown at half-staff in memory of General Robert L. Scott on Friday, March 3, 2006, the day of his funeral.  General Scott, a Georgia native, served honorably in World War II as a fighter ace in the China-Burma-India theater and wrote three books on his experiences, including “God is My Co-Pilot.”

            “I have always considered General Robert Scott to be a true American hero who helped change the course of history,” said Governor Sonny Perdue.  “Years after his service in World War II, Middle Georgia was blessed to have its native son return home and become an integral part of the Aviation Museum in Warner Robins.”

FLAGS ON STATE BUILDINGS ORDERED TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS:                 Retired Brigadier General Robert L. Scott was a great Georgian and decorated war hero who rose to national prominence during World War II as a fighter ace in the China-Burma-India theater; and

WHEREAS:                 General Scott faithfully and honorably defended the people of the United States of America ; and

WHEREAS:                 General Scott told his accounts of World War II in the books he authored, “God is My Co-Pilot,” “The Day I Owned the Sky” and “Flying Tiger:  Chennault of China;” and

WHEREAS:                 General Scott was a strong supporter of the United States Air Corps and was instrumental in the success of Middle Georgia's Museum of Aviation .

                                    NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF BRIGADIER GENERAL ROBERT L. SCOTT AND HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:                 That the flags on all state buildings throughout the State of Georgia be flown at half-staff on the day of his funeral, Friday, March 3, 2006 , until sunset.
