Governor Perdue to Serve Another Year on NGA Executive Committee

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Governor Sonny Perdue was named today to serve another year on the National Governors Association (NGA) Executive Committee. Governor Perdue was first named to the executive committee for the 2006-2007 year.

Governor Perdue will join Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley, North Dakota John Hoeven, Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle on the executive committee. New NGA Chair Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and NGA Vice Chair Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell will lead the executive committee.

“Governors play a leading role in developing and implementing innovative policies that can be duplicated in other states or by the federal government,” Governor Perdue said. “NGA is the conduit through which governors share their successes, and I am honored to have been chosen again by my fellow governors to serve on the executive committee.”

NGA also announced today its new committee chairs for the upcoming year. Governor Perdue serves on the Health and Human Services Committee and the Education, Early Childhood, and Workforce Committee.

Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm will chair the Economic Development and Commerce Committee, and South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds will serve as the committee’s vice chair.

Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri will lead the Education, Early Childhood, and Workforce Committee and Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry will serve as vice chair.

Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas, will now chair the Health and Human Services Committee, while New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine will serve the committee as vice chair.

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin will chair the Natural Resources Committee, with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin serving as vice chair.
