Governor Perdue Announces Judicial Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following judicial appointments:

• Donald Scott Smith – Superior Court of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit
• Wade Crumbley – Superior Court of the Flint Judicial Circuit
• Thomas Davis – Superior Court of the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit
• James Hardy – Superior Court of the Southern Judicial Circuit

The vacancies were created by House Bill 97, passed during the 2005 legislative session.  Brief biographies are provided below.

D. Scott Smith, Rydal , GA – Smith is a deputy district attorney and special drug prosecutor of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit where he is responsible for the prosecution of major drugs and forfeitures for the Bartow County Office. Previously, he was an associate and junior partner of Akin and Tate L.L.C. in Cartersville , Georgia . He is a member of the Cartersville Exchange Club and a speaker and trainer for the Cartersville Bartow County “Drugs Don't Work” Program. Smith earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from West Georgia College and a law degree from the College of Law at Georgia State University .

Wade M. Crumbley, McDonough , GA – Crumbley has been a partner in the law firm of Crumbley and Crumbley in McDonough since 1983. Previously, he was a county attorney for Henry County and served as special master in the State Bar of Georgia disciplinary proceedings from 1995 through 1999. Crumbley is a member of the American and Henry County Bar Associations, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, and the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia.  He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.

Thomas N. (Tom) Davis, Jr., Snellville , GA – Davis is the deputy chief assistant district attorney of the Gwinnett County with seventeen years of experience. He served as a United States Navy Judge for

twenty-three years, including nine years of active duty, retiring with the rank of Captain. Davis earned a bachelor's degree in American History from the University of Georgia , a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law and attended the U.S. Naval Justice School Lawyer Course and U.S. Navy Officer Indoctrination School. He and his wife Melanie have two children.

James E. (Jim) Hardy, Thomasville , GA – Hardy has served as the chief assistant district attorney of the Southern Judicial Circuit since 1981. Previously, he was an assistant district attorney in the Houston Judicial Circuit. He is a member of the Georgia District Attorney's Association and the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia, and he was the Assistant District Attorney of the Year for 2000. Hardy earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville , Tennessee , and a law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham , Alabama .
