ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the decision of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia Rome Division to issue a preliminary injunction of the implementation of the Georgia Voter ID requirement of HB 244:

“The court has taken a preliminary step to allow further review of the voter identification legislation. It is clear that the General Assembly, the United States Department of Justice and the vast majority of Georgia citizens agree that requiring photographic identification to vote is an appropriate and common sense approach to ensure voter integrity and sound elections in our state.”
