Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

State Board of Technical and Adult Education

Earl E. Smith, 74, Acworth , GA , At Large Member - Smith is the founder and chairman of the board of E. Smith Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc.   Smith serves as the chairman of the Cobb-Marietta Coliseum Authority and the Friends of the Strand Board.  In addition, he sits on the board of directors of Riverside Bank, Cobb County YMCA , and the Georgian Club.  Smith is a past chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Cobb County and past chairman of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce.  He was honored as the Marietta Daily Journal's Citizen of the Year in 2001.  Smith attended Southern Polytechnic State University.  He and his wife, Rachel, are charter members of Eastside Baptist Church and have two children and two grandchildren. 

Georgia Agricultural Exposition Authority

A. Felton Jenkins, Jr., 64, Madison, GA ( REAPPOINTMENT) - Jenkins retired as a partner with the law firm of King & Spalding.  He is a member of the Madison-Morgan Community Foundation, the Morgan County Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Morgan County Habitat for Humanity.  Jenkins earned a bachelor's degree and law degree from the University of Georgia .  He and his wife, Julie, have three children.

James Eugene “Gene” Sutherland, Sr ., 70, Jonesboro , GA , At Large Member (REAPPOINTMENT) - Sutherland is the president and owner of Sutherland's Foodservice, Inc.  Sutherland's Foodservice has been recognized as one of Atlanta 's top 100 privately owned companies and is now the last independent broadline foodservice distributor in the Atlanta area. Sutherland is a member of the board of director's of the Atlanta Produce Dealer Association and past chairman of the Georgia Agribusiness Council.  He also serves on the governing board of Woodward Academy and as vice chairman of the Community Capital Bank.  He received the 2004 Southern Crescent Vision's Career Success Award.  Sutherland attended the Georgia Military Academy and Georgia State University .  He is married to Joan Miller and has four children.

Georgia Auctioneers Commission

Paul G. Brower, 66, Marietta , GA , Consumer Member - Brower recently retired from Gold Kist, Inc. where he served as vice president for corporate relations and was responsible for member, government, public, news media, and community relations programs.  He was the founding executive director of The Gold Kist Foundation and first treasurer of the Gold Kist federal and state political action committees.  Since retiring from Gold Kist, Brower has worked as a licensed real estate agent at Jenny Pruitt & Associates.  He served as the first chair of the Dean Gale A. Buchanan's Advisory Committee of the University of Georgia 's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and served on the Board of Visitors of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences.  He is a member of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and National and Georgia Association for Realtors.  He is also a past chairman of the Georgia 4-H Foundation and Georgia Agribusiness Council, past president of the National Agri-Marketing Association, past director of the Georgia Council on Economic Education, past chairman of the Board of Governors of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, and a former director of the Georgia State Chamber of Commerce. Brower attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and earned a bachelor's and master's degree in business administration from California Western University .  He is married to Sheila Brower.

State Board of Barbers

Lorena K. Holland - Barrios, 58, Augusta , GA , Barber Member (REAPPOINTMENT)- Barrios serves on the Georgia State Barber Board.  In addition, she is a hospice volunteer and a member of the Retired Officers' Wives Organization.  Barrios earned a bachelor's degree from Valdosta State University .  She and her husband, Roy, have two children.

State Board of Pharmacy

Charles W. Palmer, 58, East Point , Pharmacist Member (REAPPOINTMENT)- - Palmer is currently a pharmacist at an Atlanta-area CVS Pharmacy.  He serves as a member of the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy.  In addition, he is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a member of the Atlanta Omega Chapter of the YMCA's Men Club.  Palmer earned a pharmacy degree from the Mercer University School of Pharmacy.  He and his wife, Mollie, have three children. 

State Board of Registration of Used Car Dealers and Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers

Michael L. Bradley, 45, Rome , GA , Pawnbroker Member - Bradley currently manages the Title Exchange and Pawn of Calhoun, Inc, where he is registered as a corporate officer.  He is responsible for the day-to-day operations, including making loans, collection of delinquencies, repossessions, auto sales, and accounting.  Bradley also has experience in insurance and dealership auto sales.  He is a state-licensed used car dealer and a licensed pawnbroker.  He has one child.
