Capitol Flags Lowered to Half Staff in Honor of Wiley Nixon

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue has signed an Executive Order directing the Capitol flag be lowered to half staff in honor of Wiley T. Nixon until sunset today. Nixon, 62, served the people of Georgia for the last 36 years, most recently as House Postmaster. He passed away last Friday following complications from surgery.
“The Capitol has lost some of its charm and warmth with the passing of Wiley Nixon. Mary and I join his family, friends, and his many colleagues here at the Capitol in mourning the loss of a friend and a dedicated public servant.”

Executive Order
FLAGS ON CAPITOL BUILDING ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF STAFF
WHEREAS: Today the State of Georgia mourns the loss of Wiley T. Nixon, House Postmaster.; and
WHEREAS: Mr. Nixon tirelessly and with grace and dignity served the people of the State of Georgia, the members of the Georgia General Assembly, countless staff members and visitors to the Capitol for 36 years.; and
WHEREAS: Mr. Nixon served as an example of kindness, service and generosity to all who knew him; and
WHEREAS: The citizens of the State of Georgia share the grief of the Nixon family during this time of loss.
NOW THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF WILEY T. NIXON, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the flag of the United States and the flag of this State be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and grounds from this date, the day of his funeral, until sunset.
