Statement of Governor Sonny Perdue Regarding the Tragic Death of Al Lucas

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the death of Al Lucas, son of State Representative David Lucas and Elaine Lucas:

"On behalf of the people of Georgia, Mary and I offer our prayers and condolences to Representative Lucas, his wife Elaine, and the many family and friends of Al Lucas. They have lost a beloved son, husband, brother and friend.

"His teammates from the Los Angeles Avengers remember him as a great competitor with an enthusiasm for life and an unwavering desire to help others. Al will be missed by all who knew and loved him."

Lucas, 26, died yesterday evening from a presumed spinal cord injury sustained while trying to make a tackle for the Los Angeles Avengers. He is survived by his wife, De’Shonda, and daughter, Mariah.
