ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue today appointed Representative Vance Smith (District 129) to serve as Assistant Administration Floor Leader in the Georgia House of Representatives. Smith joins Representative Rich Golick (District 34) who serves as Administration Floor Leader and Representative Jay Roberts (District 154) who serves as Assistant Administration Floor Leader. Smith is filling the vacancy created by the appointment of Representative Larry O’Neal as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

“Vance is an excellent addition to my floor leader team,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “He brings to the table a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the legislative process. I look forward to his leadership in the House.”

Smith, 52, represents District 129 (Portions of Troup, Harris and Muscogee Counties) and was first elected in 1992. He is President of Vance Smith Construction Company, a family business started in 1951. Smith is Chairman of the House Transportation Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee, Economic Development and Tourism Committee and the Rules Committee. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbus College (now Columbus State University). Smith and his wife, Michele, have three children and one grandchild.

“I welcome the opportunity to serve Governor Perdue as one of his floor leaders,” said Representative Vance Smith. “Along with Representative Golick and Representative Roberts, we will work hard to advance the Governor’s agenda.”
