ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that Heather Hedrick has been appointed press secretary. Hedrick joins the Governor’s Office from the State Board of Pardons and Paroles, where she has served as the public affairs director since June 2002.

“We're pleased to welcome Heather to our press team,” said Governor Sonny Perdue.

“Her variety of experience demonstrates that she values people and policy over partisanship.”

“Heather's communication skills have benefited the Parole Board more than I can express,” said Parole Chairman Buddy Nix. “I know she'll put her deep understanding of the policy issues to work as a communicator for Governor Perdue.”

Hedrick, 28, a native of Athens, served as the Parole Board’s primary media spokesperson, managing statewide communication. Hedrick also served as a staffer to Governor Roy Barnes and the State Senate. While attending the University of Georgia, where she studied journalism and political science, Hedrick worked in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Senate.
