Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia

James "Jim" A. Bishop, J.D., 64, Sea Island, 1st Congressional District Representative – Bishop is an attorney with The Bishop Law Firm in Brunswick. He is a member of the Atlanta Lawyers Club, the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce, and the board of directors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Bishop is a chairman of the board of directors of the Coastal Bank of Georgia and the Southeast Georgia Hospital. He is a past chairman of the United States District Court Advisory Committee for the Southern District of Georgia, the State Bar of Georgia Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency, the State Bar of Georgia Younger Lawyers Section and the Governor’s Judicial Selection Committee. Bishop earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He and his wife Mary, have two grown children and four grandchildren.

State Board of Education

Robert "Buzz" W. Law, CFP, 45, Alpharetta, 6th Congressional District Representative – Law is president and chief executive officer of Creative Financial Group, LTD. He is a member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council, the Christian Financial Professionals Network, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, the United Way Resource Development Committee and the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Advisory Committee. He served on the board of directors of the University of Georgia Alumni Association and the advisory board for the DeKalb County School System’s Academy of Finance and the Georgia Board of Corrections. Law earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Cathy, have four children.

Brian K. Burdette, 44, Greensboro, 10th Congressional District Representative – Burdette is the owner and chief executive officer of Glasstech Services Inc. and Blueprint Conversion Technology, LLP and a partner in GMTEC, a software development company catering to the glass and glazing business. He is a member of the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce and the chairman of the Rural Health Care committee of the Georgia Rural Development Council. He served on the City of Greensboro’s "Foundation for the Futures" and was a chairman of the Minnie G. Boswell Hospital Authority and the Greensboro Planning and Zoning Board. Burdette earned a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University. He is married to Patricia Walters Burdette.
