ATLANTA– Governor Sonny Perdue and Lt. General John Bradley announced at a Capitol press conference today that Atlanta has been selected as one of six cities to host Air Force Week in 2007. The celebration in Atlanta will be held from October 8-14, 2007.

"As a veteran, I am proud that the Air Force is coming to Atlanta to celebrate their service," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "Georgia is proud to represent the South in this year’s Air Force celebration.  We are all honored to join in saluting them for 60 years of outstanding service."

While attending the University of Georgia, Governor Perdue volunteered to serve in the Air Force and obtained the rank of Captain.  He was honorably discharged in 1974.

Air Force Week allows the U.S. Air Force to bring its resources and people to the metro area to interact with the public.  Events will include: an air show, parades, races, sporting events, and others that will give the public a greater understanding of the Air Force.

The other five selected locations for Air Force Weeks in 2007 are Sacramento, St. Louis, the New England region, Honolulu and Phoenix.
