Governor Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Remembrance of State Rep. Tony Sellier

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue today ordered flags at all state buildings and grounds to fly at half-staff on Saturday until sunset in remembrance of State Rep. Tony Sellier of Fort Valley.

The following is text of the Executive Order.

 

 

Flags on State Capitol Building and Grounds

Ordered Lowered to Half Staff

 

 

Whereas:    The Honorable Tony Sellier was first sworn in as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives in 2007; and

 

Whereas:    Representative Sellier served with distinction and faithfully represented the people of Georgia’s 136^th House District in the General Assembly; and

 

Whereas:    Tony Sellier was a dedicated community servant and served as a volunteer to organizations such as the Fort Valley Kiwanis Club, the American Cancer Society, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia Heartlands, his local Chambers of Commerce, and several other groups; and

 

Whereas:    Representative Sellier was the epitome of living the American dream having been born in Trinidad, West Indies and raised in Venezuela.  He came to America when he was 15 to study at a Catholic boarding school, went on to attend the University of West Florida where he received a BS Degree in Management and Economics, and in 1973 took his oath of United States citizenship.

 

Now, therefore, in honor and as a mark of respect for the memory of the Honorable Tony Sellier, pursuant to the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Georgia, it is hereby

 

Ordered:     That the flag of the United States and the flag of the great State of Georgia be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and grounds on Saturday, December 4, 2010, the day of his funeral, until sunset.
