Governor Perdue Announces Judicial Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following three judicial appointments:

  • E. Trenton “Trent” Brown, III – State Court of Putnam County.  The vacancy was created by the retirement of the Honorable Jesse Copeland, Jr.
  • Susan Eichler Edlein – State Court of Fulton County.  The vacancy was created by the appointment of the Honorable Henry M. Newkirk to the Superior Court of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit.
  • James C. Garner – State Court of Treutlen County.  The vacancy was created by the appointment of the Honorable Donald W. Gillis to the Superior Court of the Dublin Judicial Circuit.

Brief biographies are provided below:

E. Trenton “Trent” Brown, III, 34, Eatonton, GA –   Brown opened his practice Trenton Brown III, P.C. in Eatonton, Georgia in 1999.  After practicing as an associate attorney with the law firm of Smith, Welch and Brittain he returned to private practice.  Brown was appointed to the Consumer Advisory Board and is a member of the National Eagle Scout Association.  Brown earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Georgia and a law degree from Mercer University School of Law.  He and his wife Jill are expecting their daughter, Brenlee.

Susan Eichler Edlein, 38, Atlanta, GA – Edlein is a partner in the litigation department with Holland & Knight LLP, where she is co-chair of the national Real Estate Litigation Team.  She is the chair of the Women’s Initiative, Atlanta office, and sits on the Board of Directors with the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation.  Edlein was named a part of Georgia Trend Magazine’s Georgia Legal Elite in 2007.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her law degree from the University of Virginia.  She and her husband, Scott, have three children.

James C. Garner, 36, Soperton, GA – Mr. Garner is currently the Solicitor-General for the State Court of Treutlen County.  Garner is also the sole practitioner of James C. Garner P.C. in Soperton, GA.  Previously, Garner served in the United States Army JAG Corps.  He received his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Mercer University and his law degree from the University of Georgia. Garner has one son, two step daughters, and recently welcomed a newborn son with his wife, April.
