Cairo Industry Thrives as Third Company Announces New Jobs and Investment

United Structures Chooses Grady County to Start Manufacturing Operation
ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that United Structures, a new company, has chosen Cairo , Georgia to begin operations. United Structures will provide light gauge steel trusses for the commercial building industry. The company will construct a 43,000 square-foot facility at 151 Wight Road in Cairo and hire 50 employees. The total project investment is $4 million.
“In the past several months, three new projects in Cairo have led to 220 new jobs and $11 million in investment,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “We applaud the efforts of Cairo 's economic development team and look forward to future successes in Southwest Georgia .”
MacTavish Furniture Industries and Seminole Marine have also recently announced expansions in the area.
MacTavish Furniture, a subsidiary of Aaron Rents, the nation's largest furniture rental and sales company, has announced it will invest $5 million in an expansion of its current manufacturing operation in Cairo , creating 150 jobs. The MacTavish Furniture division manufactures the majority of furniture leased, rented and sold by Aaron Rents.
Locally-owned Seminole Marine, one of the nation's leading manufacturers of high-quality saltwater fishing boats, will expand its operations to meet market demand for Sailfish Boats, creating 70 jobs and investing $2 million in a 28,500 sq. ft. building and new equipment.
“GDEcD was pleased to facilitate these three projects. Southwest Georgia is very business-friendly and offers a great quality of life,” said Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Craig Lesser.
“We are very excited to welcome these companies, and look forward to helping them grow in Grady County ,” said Rick McCaskill, executive director of the Grady County Joint Development Authority.
Sam Mahdavi, United Structures' president, has 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He established United Structures after selling a similar company in Quincy , Florida .
