Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:

GeorgiaEnvironmental Facilities Authority

Dennis M. Love, 52, Atlanta – Love is president and chief executive officer of Printpack Inc.  He serves on the board of directors for AGL Resources, Caraustar Industries, Inc. and the Cleveland Group.  He is a member of the Buckhead Coalition and the Rotary Club of Atlanta.  He serves on the Boy Scouts of America Atlanta Area Council board of directors, SunTrust Bank Georgia advisory board and the board of trustees for the Westminster Schools and Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur.  Love earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a master’s degree from Harvard Business School.  He and his wife, Betts, have four children.

 

Mental Health Service Delivery Commission

Julie A. Spores, 48, Brunswick Spores is a consumer advocate and program manager for Gateway Behavioral Health Systems.  She is a region five representative on the Department of Human Resources Adult Mental Health Planning and Advisory Council. She is president of the Mental Health Consumer Network Board and a member of the Golden Isles Civitian Club.  Spores earned an associate’s degree from Coastal Georgia Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University

 

Board of Directors of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority

J. Michael Byrd, 64, Woodstock – Byrd is a real estate agent for Prudential Georgia Realty.  He served as manager director of Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc. and president of Turner International Asia Pacific Ltd., based in Hong Kong.  He is a graduate of the Coverdell Leadership Institute and is involved with the American Legion, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the Cherokee County Arts Council and the Cherokee County Historic Society.  He is a former chairman of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.  He earned a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University and conducted graduate studies at California State University.  He is married to State Representative Charlice Byrd.

 

Board of Corrections

James L. Whitehead, Sr., 65, Evans, At-Large Representative – Whitehead is the owner of Jim Whitehead Tire Service, Inc.  He served as a state senator for District 24 from 2005-2007.  He is a member of the Sister City Advisory Board of Columbia County and serves on the advisory board of directors of First Bank. He is a member of the board of trustees of Doctors Hospital and a past chairman of the board of directors of the Augusta Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Whitehead earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.  He and his wife, Peggy, have three grown children.

 

J. Cecil Nobles, 72, Ludowici, At-Large Representative (Reappointment) – Nobles is the sheriff of Long County, Georgia.  He is a member of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and the director of the Glennville-Ludowici Bank.  He is a former Long County assistant principle and educator.  Nobles earned an associate’s degree from Brewton-Parker College and a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Georgia Southern University.  He and his wife, Peggy, have three children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 

State Board of Technical and Adult Education

Sylvia E. Anderson, 51, Marietta, At-Large Representative – Anderson is the president of AT&T Georgia.  She serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Cancer Coalition, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Georgia Allies.  She is a member of the board of directors and the executive committee for the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education. She is a member of the steering committee for the Atlanta Education Fund’s College Success Network.  She serves on the board of trustees for the Woodruff Arts Center and for Atlanta Landmarks, Inc and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.  Anderson earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a law degree from Rutgers School of Law.  She has two children.
