Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:

Health Strategies Council

Charles T. “Chuck” Adams, Royston, GA, Rural Hospital Representative - Adams is the chief executive officer of Ty Cobb Healthcare System, a private self-supporting nonprofit health care organization serving Franklin, Hart, Madison and Barrow counties. He is a board member of the Georgia Hospital Association and the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. Adams received a bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine technology from the Medical College of Georgia and a master’s degree in business administration from Brenau University.

W. Clay Campbell, Thomasville, GA, Home Health Agency Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) - Campbell is the executive vice president of Archbold Health Services, a fully integrated home care provider. He is a member of the Georgia Hospital Association, president of the Thomasville YMCA and past president of the Georgia Association of Home Health Agencies. Campbell received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Georgia.

Susan Chambers, RNC, Lilburn, GA, Registered Nurse Representative - Hunter is the vice president and chief nurse executive of the Gwinnett Hospital System. She is a member of the Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders, the board of directors for Kids’ Health Inc., and serves on the program advisory committees for nursing programs at Athens Technical College and Georgia Perimeter College. Hunter earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mercer University, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Armstrong State College and a master’s degree in parent-child nursing from Georgia State University.

Janet P. Deal, Douglasville, GA, Disabled Health Care Needs Representative ­ Deal is the regional director for Georgia and Tennessee for ResCare, Inc. She is the president of the Service Provider Association for Developmental Disabilities, a member and officer of the DeKalb Developmental Disabilities Council and a sixteen-year member of the American Association on Mental Retardation. Deal received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in public administration from Georgia State University.

John F. Freihaut, DDS, Marietta, GA, Dentist Representative - Freihaut has practiced general dentistry for nearly thirty years and specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is a fellow with the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American College of Dentists, in addition to being a member and former president of the Georgia Dental Association. Freihaut received his bachelor’s degree in pre-dental curriculum and his doctor of dental surgery degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Vernon E. “Trey” Googe, III, Atlanta, GA, At-Large Representative - Googe is the chief operating officer for Seven Oaks Company, LLC, a private entrepreneurial real estate development and investment firm. He has extensive legal and investment banking experience and is a member of the Georgia Bar Association. Googe earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and a law degree from the University of Georgia.

Michael E. Greene, MD, Macon, GA, Primary Care Physician Representative - Greene is a family physician engaged in private practice in Macon. He is a member and a past president of the Medical Association of Georgia, a member of the American Medical Association, the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Greene earned an associate’s degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College, a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Columbus State University and a doctorate in medicine from Mercer University.

C. Thomas Hopkins, Jr., MD, Griffin, GA, Specialty Physician Representative - Hopkins is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon engaged in private practice at the Orthopedic & Sports Injury Center in Griffin. He is a member of the Georgia Orthopedic Society, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Medical Association of Georgia. Hopkins earned a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University and a doctorate in medicine from Emory University.

Donna W. Hyland, Atlanta, GA, Child Health Care Representative - Hyland is the chief operating officer of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She serves on the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia Hospital Relations Council and on the boards of the Metro Atlanta YMCA and the Emory-Egleston Children’s Heart Center. Hyland attended the University of Kentucky, received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Kentucky University and is a certified public accountant.

Gary G. Oetgen, Savannah, GA, Private Insurance Industry Representative - Oetgen serves as president of the Gary G. Oetgen Agency, which specializes in group and individual health, disability and life insurance programs. He served two terms as president of the Savannah Association of Life Underwriters and is a member of the John Alden Life Insurance Company Agents’ Advisory Council and the Executive Club of Savannah. Oetgen earned a bachelor’s degree in risk management and insurance from the University of Georgia.

Jessie L. Petrea, Savannah, GA, Elderly Health Care Representative - Petrea is the chief executive officer and co-owner of Southern Living Alternative, Inc., a statewide alternative living service provider serving various programs including the Community Care Services program. He is a board member of the Assisted Living Association of Georgia and the Health Care Mutual Captive Insurance Company. Petrea earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Armstrong State College.

Louise Radloff, Norcross, GA, County Government Representative – Radloff is the executive director of Interlocking Communities, Inc., an organization that offers academic and enrichment learning to high-risk students. She is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett, a member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and the Gwinnett County Board of Health, where she served as chair for fourteen years. Radloff received a bachelor’s degree in business from Loretto Abby College and additional training at the Shaw Business Institute and the University of Buffalo.

Daniel W. Rahn, MD, Augusta, GA, At-Large Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) – Rahn is president of the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He has been serving and will continue to serve as chairman of the Health Strategies Council, in addition to his service as a member of the board of directors of the Georgia Research Alliance and the Georgia Cancer Coalition. Rahn received his bachelor’s degree and medical degree from Yale University, where he also completed his postdoctoral fellowship in rheumatology.

Sheila M. Ridley, Tifton, GA, At-Large Representative – Ridley is the president and chief executive officer of Sovereign Solutions, LLC, and has been in the healthcare field for over thirty years. She has spoken to numerous groups, including the Self-Institute of America, HMFA and MGMA, about the critical issues of increasing health care expenses, worker expectations and the impact on employers. Ridley earned an associate’s degree from the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University.

Mark H. Wilson, Valdosta, GA, Large Business Personnel Representative – Wilson serves as vice president and director of human resources for Langdale Industries, Inc. He is a member of the board of directors and chairman of the uninsured and underinsured subcommittee of the Lowndes County Partnership for Health. Wilson earned his associates degree in education from Brevard College and his bachelor’s degree in human resources management from the University of Alabama.
