Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:

Board of Corrections

Bruce A. Hudson, 76, Douglasville, GA, Eighth Congressional District Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) - Hudson is the president of Exxell Developers, Inc. and Land Sales, Inc., both of which purchase land for development purposes. He has been serving on the state Board of Corrections for over ten years. Hudson and his wife, Janice, have one son.

R. Carlton Powell, 67, Thomasville, GA, Second Congressional District Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) - Powell has served as sheriff of Thomas County since 1977. Previously he served in the United States Air Force with the Air Police Squadron. Powell is a member of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, the County Officers Association and the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association. He earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from South Georgia College and is a graduate of the National Sheriffs’ Institute in Los Angeles. Powell and his wife, Wanda, have two grown children and four grandchildren.

Board of Drivers Services

Douglas “Doug” A.S. Chalmers, Jr., 41, Duluth, GA, Member - Chalmers is an attorney with McKenna, Long, and Aldridge, LLP. He is a member of the board of advisors of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, the executive board of the Atlanta Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society and the State Bar of Georgia. He was recognized by both Law & Politics and Atlanta Magazine on their 2005 list of Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Stars. Chalmers earned a bachelor’s degree with distinction in public policy studies and economics and a law degree from Duke University. He and his wife, Charlotte, have three children.

Board of Economic Development

Joseph “Joe” M. Hatfield, 45, Clarkesville, GA, Ninth Congressional District - Hatfield is the executive vice president of operations and serves on the board of directors for Fieldale Farms Corporation. He is on the board of directors for the North Georgia Technical College and Peach State Bank and Trust, and serves as a member of the National Chicken Council and the Georgia Poultry and Egg Association. Hatfield earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from North Georgia College. He and his wife, Rosalyn, have one child.

Board of Human Resources

Robert E. Dicks III, M.D., 58, Athens, GA, At Large Member - Dicks serves as the advisor to the chief executive officer and president for physician development at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia in exercise science. Dicks previously served as executive director of neuroscience at St. Mary’s Hospital. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Crawford W. Long Medical Society and the Georgia Neurological Surgery Society. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Dicks and his wife, Lynn, have three children and two grandchildren.

Board of Child Fatality Review Panel

J. David Miller, 50, Valdosta, GA, District Attorney Representative - Miller is the district attorney representing the Southern Judicial Circuit for the State of Georgia. Miller is a member and former president of the District Attorneys Association of Georgia, the current secretary and chairman of the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia, and an advisory board member of the Child Advocacy Center in Valdosta and Moultrie. Miller was honored as the 2004 Georgia District Attorney of the Year. He received his bachelor’s degree in national science from Shorter College, his master’s degree in public administration from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Mercer University. Miller and his wife, Susan, have two children.

Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council

Phil D. Miller, 53, Douglasville, GA, Sheriff Representative - Miller serves as Sheriff of Douglas County where he has worked in law enforcement for more than thirty years. He is a member of the FBI National Academy Associates, the legislative committee of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and the North Central Law Enforcement Academy board. Miller assisted in developing the Methamphetamine Task Force in Douglas County. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Georgia Police Academy. Miller and his wife, Gloria, have two children.

State Housing Trust Fund for the Homeless Commission

Nicholas “Nick” F. Masino, 34, Suwanee, GA, Member - Masino serves as the mayor of Suwanee and as the professional services division manager of Ablest, Inc., a temporary staffing firm in Atlanta. He is on the board of directors for the Georgia Municipal Association and the Georgia Staffing Association, and he serves as chairman of the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association. Masino is a member of the Gwinnett County Superintendents’ Advisory Council and the current president of the North Gwinnett Schools Foundation. He earned his bachelor’s degree in interpersonal and organizational communications from the Ohio State University. Mansino and his wife, Suzanne, have three children.

C. David Moody, Jr., 49, Lithonia, GA, Member - Moody is the president and chief executive officer of C.D. Moody Construction Company, Inc. He is a member of the Atlanta Business League and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. Moody serves on the board of directors for the National Association of Minority Contractors-Atlanta Chapter, Citizen Trust Bank and Wesley Woods. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Morehouse College and his professional degree in architecture from Howard University. Moody and his wife, Karla, have two children.
