Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

Board of Driver Services

David G. Hanna, 41, Atlanta , GA , Member - Hanna is the chairman and chief executive officer of CompuCredit.  He is a board member of the Children's Health Care of Atlanta foundation, the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the Holy Spirit Preparatory School .  Hanna earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia .  He and his wife, Kim, have three children.

Board of Early Care and Learning

Magdalena "Maggy" Martinez, 48, Hampton, GA, Thirteenth Congressional District Representative - Martinez is a former Spanish instructor at Clayton College and State University and is in the process of earning her real estate license.  Previously, she served as the District 40 State Representative in Puerto Rico .  She has served as the fund raising director for the American Lung Association of Puerto Rico.  Martinez earned a bachelor's degree in communication arts from the New York Institute of Technology.  She and her husband, Pedro Maldonado, have three children.

M. Carlene Talton, 54, Decatur , GA , Fourth Congressional District Representative - Talton is the intake coordinator for the South Metro Psychological Education Program with the Clayton County Board of Education.  She is a member of the National Education Association, the Georgia Education Association and the Clayton County Education Association.  Talton earned a bachelor's degree in mental retardation from the University of Georgia , a master's degree in learning disabilities from the University of Georgia and a specialist's degree in leadership and learning disabilities from West Georgia University . 

Melissa V. Turner, 43, Braselton , GA , Tenth Congressional District Representative - Turner is vice president and partner of Legacy Academy, Inc.  Previously, she served as the owner and director of Legacy Academy for Children.  She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association of Childcare Professionals.  Turner earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia .  She and her husband, Franklin, have two children.

Charles R. Webb, 58, Statesboro , GA , Twelfth Congressional District Representative - Webb serves as the principal of Portal Middle and High School.  He retired from the United States Army Reserve as a Brigadier General.  He is a member of Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals and the board of directors of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education.  Webb earned a bachelor's and master's degree in recreation from Georgia Southern University, a specialist's degree in school administration and supervision from Georgia Southern University, a degree in strategic studies, diplomacy and military science from the United States Army War College and a doctorate in educational administration from Georgia Southern University.  He and his wife, Lynda, have two grown children.

Georgia Agriama Development Authority

J. Tyron Spearman, 59, Tifton , GA , Tift County Resident Representative - Spearman is the president and chief executive officer of Spearman Advertising/Marketing Co.  He is the executive director of Peanut Buying Points Association, the editor of Peanut Grower Magazine, the coordinator of the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Association and the marketing editor of Pecan Grower Magazine.  Spearman earned an associate's degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Georgia .  He and his wife, Sandra, have two grown children.

State Board of Examiners for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and Laboratory Analysts

Stanley L. Tate, 62, Carrollton , GA , Consumer Member - Tate serves as the vice president, general counsel, and secretary to the board of directors for Southwire Company.  He is a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Georgia Bar Association, the United States Patent Bar, the chairman of the Carroll County Planning Commission and the director of the Carroll County Water Authority.  Tate earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and math from Berry College and a law degree from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law.  He and his wife, Lora, have one grown child.
