Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following appointments.

Board of Community Affairs

Aaron S. McWhorter, 58, Whitesburg , GA , Eighth Congressional District Member - McWhorter is the owner and president of North Georgia Turf, Inc. and Sports Turf Company, Inc.  He has completed several major projects over the last ten years, including projects for Auburn University's Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn University's baseball field, Troy State University's football stadium and Jacksonville State University's NCAA Division I women's soccer field.  He is the past president of the Georgia Turfgrass Association and sits on the board of directors of the American Sports Builders Association.  He earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in education from the University of West Georgia . He has two grown children.

Board of Human Resources

Deborah D. Silcox, 41, Atlanta , GA , At Large Member - Silcox works as a community volunteer and charity fundraiser.  She is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia and previously practiced for the law firm of Parker, Johnson, Cook, and Dunlevie and for former Insurance Commissioner Robert P. Constantine, Jr. She is a member of the Junior League of Atlanta, Atlanta Speech School Guild, Atlanta Speech School Parents Council and Westminster Parents Council.  Silcox earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from Emory University .  She and her husband, Daniel, have two children. 

State Board of Technical and Adult Education

L. McGrath Keen, Jr., 51, Dublin, GA, At Large Member - Keen is director of Capital City Bank Group and president of L.P. Keen Insurance Agency.  Previously, he served as the president of Farmers & Merchants Bank.  He is a past chairman of the Dublin City Board of Education, past director and vice president of the Dublin-Laurens Chamber of Commerce, former president of the Laurens County Historical Society and former president of the Dublin Rotary Club.  Keen attended Auburn University and Middle Georgia College and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia Southern University.  He and his wife, Cindy, have two children.

State Board of Cosmetology

Don J. Westbrook, 61, Marietta , GA , Cosmetologist Member - Westbrook is the owner of Elon Salon, a 4,000 square foot salon specializing in hair color and cutting.  He serves on the board of directors for Intercoiffure, a professional organization of salon owners.  He has represented Intercoiffure U.S.A. at international conferences in France , England , and China .  Westbrook earned a master of cosmetology and attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania .  He and his wife, Flonnie, have two children.

Board of Commissioners of the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund

William L. Cline, 74, Waleska, GA, State Peace Office Representative RE AP POINTMENT - Cline, now retired, served in the law enforcement division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for over 30 years, beginning as a ranger and retired as regional supervisor of the northern region.  He is a member of the Peace Officer Association of Georgia, the Waleska City Council, the Waleska Baptist Church and the Waleska Masonic Lodge.  Cline attended Reinhardt College .  He and his wife, Dorothy, have three grown children.
