ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued today the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court rulings on the display of the Ten Commandments:

“The Ten Commandments are a cornerstone of our nation’s legal tradition and they should not be banished from the courthouse or the public square. To do so denies their historical contribution to our legal system. I am disappointed to see the U.S. Supreme Court stray so far from our nation’s heritage.

“The Supreme Court has ruled the posting of the Ten Commandments unconstitutional in one case and constitutional in another case. Their rulings have failed to give us clear guidelines or consistent principles regarding the display of the Ten Commandments. I am hopeful that the unanswered questions resulting from these decisions will someday be resolved with a greater respect for our Constitution and the wisdom of our Founding Fathers.”
