ATLANTA – Governor and First Lady Perdue hosted a tree lighting ceremony Sunday evening at the Governor’s Mansion, an annual tradition which kicks off the Mansion’s holiday touring season. This year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Georgia Governor’s mansion.

“Mary and I would like to welcome Georgians to visit the Governor’s Mansion this holiday season,” said Governor Perdue. “It is our privilege to entertain and celebrate the season in this beautiful residence.”

This year’s theme is the 40th anniversary of the Georgia Governor’s Mansion.  Each Christmas tree in the mansion is decorated in honor of the past four decades and the Governors who served during those years. The tour also hosts musical performances from students and groups from across the state.  Tours featuring the holiday-themed decorations at the Governor’s Mansion will be held December 8th – 19th, Monday – Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Saturday -Sunday: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Governor Perdue also encouraged Georgians to visit the Georgia Governor’s Mansion website at www.mansion.georgia.gov. The website features include information on public tours, monthly recipe cards and a history of the mansion. The website is a part of Governor Perdue’s continued focus on customer service, and his commitment to make Georgia state government faster, friendlier and easier.  GTA hosts the website as a part of Georgia.gov, the state government’s internet portal which provides a single point of access to government information and services.
