Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

Criminal Justice Coordinating Council

James H. Maxwell, 59, Quitman, GA, County Commissioner Representative – Maxwell is chairman of the Brooks County Board of Commissioners. He is a financial analyst at Primerica Financial Services. He served in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, receiving the Purple Heart medal, National Defense Service medal and Vietnam Service medal. Maxwell is chairman of the Coastal Plain Area EOA, chairman of the Brooks County Food and Shelter Program, sub-region vice president of the Georgia Foster & Adoptive Parents Association and chairman of the Brooks County MLK Committee. Maxwell earned a bachelor’s degree from Empire State College. He and his wife, China, have eight children.

Georgia Board for Physician Workforce

Jacinto del Mazo, M.D, 65, Atlanta, GA, Non-primary Care Physician Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) – del Mazo is a physician and president of del Mazo Medical Services. He received a bachelor’s degree from San Anton, Madrid, Spain, and a medical degree from Faculdad de Medicina, Madrid, Spain. He and his wife, Arlene, have four grown children and four grandchildren.

Board of Trustees of the Georgia Teachers Retirement System

Lisa S. Muldrew, 40, Statesboro, GA, Classroom Teacher Representative – Muldrew teaches business and chorus classes at William James Middle School. She is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, the Statesboro High School Band Boosters finance committee and the board of directors of the Averitt Stars Community Theater. She served as co-state director of Christian Educators Association International and as a board member of the Atlanta Orff Music Chapter. Muldrew earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Allen, have three children.

State Board of Cemeterians

William M. “Micky” Couey, 50, Milledgeville, GA, Cemeterian Representative – Couey is owner of Baldwin Memorial Gardens, Eatonton Memorial Park, Scenic Memorial Gardens and Moores Funeral Home. He serves on the board of the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the Georgia Funeral Directors Association. He served on the board of directors of Exchange Bank and was a member of the Independent Funeral Directors of Georgia. Couey attended Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science and is a licensed embalmer and funeral director. He and his wife, Katrina, have two children.

Clifton “Clift” C. Dempsey, 39, Cartersville, GA, Cemeterian Representative – Dempsey is president and co-owner of Dempsey Funeral Services. He is a member of the board of directors of the International Cemetery & Funeral Association, the Bartow County Rotary Club and the Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce. He is a member and past president of the Southern Cemetery and Funeral Association and the Georgia Cemetery Association. Dempsey earned a bachelor’s degree from Shorter College. He and his wife, Melanie, have four children.

Daniel “Dan” Greene Jr., 58, Athens, GA, Cemeterian Representative – Greene is the general manager of Evergreen Memorial Park, which his parents founded in 1952. He is a member of the Georgia Cemetery Association, the Athens Rotary Club, the Athens Kiwanis Club, the Athens Touchdown Club and the Athens Track Club. Greene attended Abraham Baldwin College and Chattahoochee Valley College. He and his wife, Gail, have two grown children and two grandchildren.

Michael “Mike” C. Lawrence, 37, Temple, GA, Cemeterian Representative – Lawrence is president of Lawrence Properties, Inc. and Lawrence Construction & Investment, Inc., vice president of Cecil Lawrence, Inc. and general manager of Mozley Memorial Gardens. He is a member of the Georgia Cemetery Association and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. Lawrence attended Jacksonville State University and West Georgia University. He and his wife, Philline, have three children.

Richard L. Parker, 59, Brunswick, GA, Cemeterian Representative – Parker is president of Golden Isles Cemetery Group, Inc. He is a member of the Georgia Cemetery Association and served as president of the Optimist Club. He attended Middle Georgia College. He and his wife, Arlene, have one grown child and one grandchild.

Timothy “Tim” C. Smith, 45, Suwanee, GA, Cemeterian Representative – Smith is executive vice president and managing partner of East Shadowlawn Memorial Gardens, Gwinnett Memorial Park, White Chapel Memorial Gardens and River View Memorial Park. He serves as second vice president of the Georgia Cemetery Association. He served as president of the Georgia Cemetery Association, vice president of the North Carolina Cemetery Association and director of the Southern Cemetery and Funeral Association. Smith attended West Virginia State College. He and his wife, Nellie, have two children.

Emory E. Lamar, 61, Gray, GA, Public Member – Lamar is assistant principal of Gray Station Middle School. He is chairman of Jones County Senior Citizens, Inc. and president of the Macon-Middle Georgia Morehouse Club. Maxwell is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Jones County Family Connection, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Jones County and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Lamar earned a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, a master’s degree from Georgia College and a specialist degree from Clark Atlanta University. He and his wife, Geraldine, have one child and one grandchild.

Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners

Gregory A. Baker, D.C., 47, Chatsworth, GA, Chiropractor Representative – Baker is the owner and manager of LifeTouch Chiropractic. He served as president of the Georgia Council of Chiropractic and the Chatsworth-Murray County Chamber of Commerce. He was the 2005-2006 Georgia Chiropractor of the Year. He is a founding member of the Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics, and a member of the International Chiropractic Association and the American College of Addiction and Compulsive Disorders. Baker earned an associate’s degree from Northern Virginia Community College and a doctoral degree from Life Chiropractic College. He and his wife, Carol-Lee, have one child.

Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians

Frances H. Cook, 65, Fayetteville, GA, Community/Public Health Dietetics Representative – Cook is the director of the nutrition section and the public health dietetic internship at the Georgia Department of Human Resources. She is a member of the Georgia Dietetic Association, the American Dietetic Association, the Georgia Public Health Association, the American Public Health Association, the Society for Nutrition Education and the Georgia Nutrition Council Human Resources. Cook is a member of the Leadership Georgia Foundation, Inc. and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Managers, Inc. She is a five-time recipient of the American Dietetic Association’s “Outstanding Service Award.” Cook earned a bachelor’s degree from Tuskegee University, a master’s degree from New York University and a certified public manager degree from the University of Georgia. She is married to Edmond Cook.

State Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and Dispensers

Vaughn G. Bray, 47, Columbus, GA, Dispenser Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) – Vaughn is general manager, hearing aid dispenser and staff audiologist at VB Associates, Inc., a Beltone Hearing Center. He served as president of the Georgia Society of Hearing Healthcare Professionals and the Georgia Hearing Aid Society. He is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, the International Hearing Society, and the Optimist Club of Columbus. Bray serves as a board member of Peach Little League and secretary of the Clubview local school council. Vaughn earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree from Auburn University. He and his wife, Phyllis, have three children.

State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

James W. Butler, 44, Barnesville, GA, Land Surveyor Representative – Butler is the department head of daily land surveying operations at Brown Design Group, Inc. He served as president of Butler Land Survey, Inc. for eight years. Butler served with Naval Construction Battalion 24 during Desert Shield/Storm and is a retired Navy reservist. He is county surveyor of Lamar County and vice chairman of the Lamar County Board of Assessors. Butler is president of the Atlanta chapter of the Surveying and Mapping Society of Georgia and cubmaster of Pack 38 in Lamar County. He attended Morris Brown College and Southern College of Technology. He and his wife, Eveline, have four children and two grandchildren.
