SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding $25 million in federal funds to reimburse state and local law enforcement for security costs associated with the G8 Summit. The Summit is being held in Sea Island, GA, June 8-10, 2004.

"I would like to thank Senator Chambliss, Senator Miller, Congressman Kingston, Congressman Burns, and the rest of the Congressional delegation for their efforts in securing these funds for the G8 Summit. I appreciate their leadership and collaboration in this important effort. These funds will help provide vital support to our state as we prepare to host the world's leaders in Sea Island next June."

"In addition to elevating Georgia's global stature, the G8 Summit will showcase our assets to international business leaders like those here in Korea, Japan, and elsewhere around the world. The G8 will give an enormous boost to the local economy of coastal Georgia and will have a positive ripple effect throughout the rest of the state."
