Atlanta - Governor-Elect Perdue told the approximately 80 state agency directors today that he intends to lead a people-centered and principle-driven government. He spoke of his vision for the New Georgia, which includes restoring public trust in government, ensuring a public voice and inspiring and empowering innovation in state government. He said that achieving these goals will require a change in the culture of state government.

He also thanked the agency heads for their service to the people of Georgia and said that he wanted their creative ideas and their involvement in building the New Georgia.

In addition, the Governor-Elect asked all agency and department heads to give him the "liberty of a clean start" by tendering their resignations. This is a standard practice in national and state governance that allows an incoming leader the flexibility to choose leaders for government departments.

An excerpt of the Governor-Elect's remarks follows:

"I am asking each department and agency head to tender his or her resignation. If you would like to continue to serve the citizens of Georgia, I ask that you submit a letter and a resume to me as soon as possible. We have developed a process that we ask everyone to go through. I assure you that I don't care whether you have an "R" or a "D" behind your name. I am looking for talented people to serve the people of Georgia."
