Governor Perdue Signs Resolution in Honor of Wiley T. Nixon

Wiley T. Nixon Capitol Post Office Honors Former Capitol Postmaster

ATLANTA – Today at a ceremony on the third floor of the State Capitol, Governor Sonny Perdue signed House Resolution 1395 naming the Capitol Post Office in honor of Wiley T. Nixon, former Capitol postmaster, who passed away on April 8, 2005.

“Wiley dedicated 36 years of service here under the Gold Dome. He blessed us all with his kindness, grace and generosity,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “There is not a more appropriate tribute we could make to honor his life and service to the people of Georgia.”

Nixon began his public service career at the State Capitol in 1969 as a doorkeeper for the House of Representatives and rose to the position of Postmaster, supervising two post offices at the Capitol. His wife, Shirley Nixon, was present at the signing of the resolution today.
