Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council

Jerry Lee Lancaster, Sr., 63, Hawkinsville, GA, Peace Officer Member — Lancaster serves as sheriff of Pulaski County . He is a member of Corinth Baptist Church , the Georgia Sheriffs' Association, the National Sheriffs' Association, the Hawkinsville Rotary Club and Mount Hope Lodge #9. He also serves on the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Youth Homes Board. Lancaster and his wife, Nell, have two children.  

Georgia Composite State Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists

Patricia  R.  Harwell, 63, Conyers, GA, Marriage and Family Therapist Member—REAPPOINTMENT —Harwell is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice.  She is the current chairman of the Georgia Composite State Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists. Harwell is a member of the American Association for Christian Counseling, the Georgia and American Associations for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the Christian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.  She is a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church . Harwell received a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in psychiatric nursing from Emory University .  She is married to Julian F. Harwell.

Criminal Justice Coordinating Council

David H. Moskowitz, 48, Dunwoody, GA, Member—REAPPOINTMENT —Moskowitz is an attorney and serves as senior partner of Moskowitz & Carraway, P.C..  Moskowitz chairs the Crime Victims Compensation Committee, which is administered by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.  He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.  Moskowitz is a member of the Poultry Justice Alliance Committee, and was recently appointed by the National Football League Players' Association to the Workers' Compensation Panel.  He received his bachelor's degree and his juris doctorate degree from Emory University . Moskowitz and his wife, Deb, have two children.

State Board of Funeral Service

Douglas "Terry " Daviston, 63, Newnan, GA, Funeral Director Representative —Daviston is the owner and chief executive officer of McKoon Funeral Home, Inc.  He previously served as manager of Castellaw Funeral Home. He is a member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association, the Golden K Kiwanis Club, and First Baptist Church .  He serves as a board member of Newnan Coweta Bank and the Coweta County Development Authority.  He previously served on the boards of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Coweta, and First South Bank.  Daviston served in the United States Army in military intelligence.  He is a graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. Daviston and his wife, Martha Ann, have two children.

Children and Youth Coordinating Council

Donnie Lamar Ayodele Olajuwon, Stone Mountain, GA, Youth Member* —Olajuwon serves as an assistant to the Department of Human Resources' Independent Living Program.  He previously served as an intern in the United States Senate.  Olajuwon's community service includes the Metro-Atlanta Youth Opportunities Imitative, Boys II Men of Grady County, Grady County Youth STARS, and the mentor program at Clark Atlanta University .  He is a member of Saint Philip AME Church.  Olajuwon is a 2002 National Youth Scholar, a 2004 Faculty Scholar at Georgia State University , and a member of the Dean's List.  He is the recipient of the Stone Mountain High School Best Actor award and the Most Lasting Contributions Award for Boys II Men of Grady County award.  Olajuwon is pursing his bachelor's degree in history at Georgia State University .

Marquis L. Harris, Macon, GA, Youth Member* —Harris serves as an American government teacher in the International Baccalaureate Program at Central High School, as a Title I tutor and mentor at the Methodist Home for Children & Youth, and as a model for About Faces Models and Talent.  He previously served as a congressional intern for then-U.S. Representative Saxby Chambliss and as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for the State of Kentucky .  He is a past student body president at Asbury College in Kentucky , where he  received his bachelor's degree in social studies secondary education and sociology.  Harris was a member of the Asbury College Dean's List (1999 – 2003) and was a 2003 Rhodes Scholar nominee.  He is a MENSA inductee, and was recently named International Poet of Merit through the International Society of Poets.

Bernice Butler, Warrenton, GA, Youth Member* — Butler is a program intern for the Administrative Office of the Courts. She previously worked at the GSU Psychology Clinic for Research and Assessment , as a resident advisor for GSU Housing Department and as an intern for Savell and Williams, LLP. Butler has served as vice president and junior advisor of Alpha Lambda Delta Freshmen Honor Society, director of Education and Social Programs for the GSU Chapter of Campus Civitan, executive vice president of the Village Student Government Association and planning committee member of the GSU Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference. Butler is pursing her bachelor's degree in psychology at Georgia State University , where she is a member of the Dean's List.  She is a GSU Faculty Scholar, a Governor's Scholarship recipient, a GSU Honors Program member, and a Golden Key International Honor Society member.  

*Youth members of the Children and Youth Coordinating Council must be under the age of 24 at the time of their appointment.
