Statement of Governor Sonny Perdue on the Election of Speaker Glenn Richardson

ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the election of Representative Glenn Richardson as Speaker of the House of Representatives:

“I offer my congratulations to Speaker Richardson on his historic election as Speaker of the House. As one of my former floor leaders, I have always respected his integrity and principled leadership, and I look forward to working with him.”

Speaker Richardson will be Georgia’s first Republican Speaker of the House since Reconstruction. He was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1996, representing Paulding County.
