Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA  Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.  Brief biographies are provided below:

 

Board of Early Care and Learning

Susan H. Harper, 63, Albany, Second Congressional District Representative – Harper is retired from the Dougherty County Board of Education as a media specialist at International Studies Elementary Magnet School. She serves on the board of directors and as secretary of the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation and is president of the Suburban Women’s Club. Harper earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, a master’s degree from Georgia State University and a specialist’s degree from the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Carroll, have two grown children and three grandchildren.

 

Franklin D. Roosevelt Warm Springs Advisory Committee

J. Winford Poitevint, 68, Fayetteville Poitevint is retired from the Office of Planning and Budget, after 32 years with the state of Georgia.  After his retirement, Poitevint purchased and established a cattle farm in Molena, Georgia. He is a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau. Poitevint earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and two master’s degrees from Georgia State University.  He and his wife, Jackie, have three grown children and seven grandchildren.

 

Georgia Board of Nursing

Rebecca Nash Sullivan, 34, Lilburn, Consumer Member – Sullivan is an attorney who previously served as Executive Counsel in the Office of Governor Sonny Perdue. Prior to joining the Perdue administration, Sullivan was an associate with the law firm of Elarbee, Thompson, Sapp and Wilson, LLP in Atlanta. She currently serves as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission. Sullivan is also actively involved in the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Michael, have two children.

 

State Board of Optometry

Betty Ann Lindsey, 55, Tifton, Consumer Member – Lindsey is a buyer for Omega Pharmacy-Gift Division. She currently serves on the board for the Tift County Residential Housing Corporation, Ruth’s Cottage for Abused Women and Patticake House for Abused Children. She is a Tifton Museum of Arts & Heritage guild member. Lindsey attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and is a graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta. She and her husband, Tommy, have two children.

 

State Board of Technical and Adult Education

Stephen W. Gooch, 42, Dahlonega, Ninth Congressional District Representative – Gooch is vice president of commercial sales and partner of the Norton Agency Commercial Group. He served as sole commissioner of Lumpkin County for four years and as chairman of the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners for four years. Gooch was chosen by Georgia Trend and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government as the first recipient of Georgia’s Excellence in Public Service Award in 2003. He is a graduate of Leadership Georgia and Leadership Lumpkin County and is a member of the North Georgia College & State University School of Business & Government Advisory Council.  Gooch earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from North Georgia College and State University. He and his wife, Shannon, have three children.
